Sunday has passed, and so has another great weekend of football. As the 2015-2016 season draws to an end, 2 teams remain alive, fighting for a championship. One side features a soon-to-be Hall of Fame veteran who seeks to add one more accolade to his illustrious career, and the other features the new face of the league, seeking his first championship in his NFL career. Peyton Manning vs. Cam Newton. Broncos vs. Panthers.
As you probably noticed, the AFC championship game did not end the way I predicted, as the Broncos beat the Patriots in a grudge match, 20-18. The Panthers demolished the Cardinals, just as I predicted they would, 49-15. Once again, the Panthers proved their worth and dominance this season. The icing on the cake would be a Super Bowl win.
I’m going to try and not incorporate any personal feelings into this prediction. I’ll try, haha. Both teams displayed strong defenses on Sunday. The Broncos loaded the pressure on Tom Brady all night, and forced him to make some bad throws which resulted in two interceptions. They got a lot of pressure on Brady, which was key to their win. Carolina’s defense forced four interceptions off of Carson Palmer, also displaying their dominance. We knew all season that these two teams had very dominant defenses, and it is no surprise that they’re in the Super Bowl. The only difference between these teams, to me, is that Carolina’s offense has been far more dominant than Denver’s all season. Peyton Manning had arguably one of the worst seasons in his career, while sort of returning to his old self in the playoffs. I use the phrase “Sort of” strongly. Manning still did not display the strength and command that he has been known for over his career in these past two games (In my opinion, if New England had kicked the field goal in the mid-fourth quarter they would have won this game). Carolina’s defense will put far more pressure on Manning than New England or Pittsburg did. Given that New England was able to put a good amount of pressure on Manning, I believe the pressure will be even worse with the Panthers.
2 factors I believe will decide the Super Bowl champion:
1) Both quarterback’s ability to work through a tough defense.
2) Whichever defense that has a better time pressuring the quarterback will win the game.
Here we go. Prediction time. We all remember what happened two years ago. The Broncos beat the Patriots to advance to Super Bowl 48 against the dominant Seattle Seahawks. And we all know how that game ended (43-8 in favor of Seattle). Seattle, much like Carolina now, had an incredibly tough defense that man-handled Peyton Manning and the Broncos. I believe this will be the case for Super Bowl 50, to a slightly less degree. I think both teams will get pressure on the QBs, but I think Manning will be affected more. Newton’s ability to run the ball and escape pressure gives him an advantage. Heck, I’ll even predict the score too.
I believe Carolina will beat Denver, 27-12.
There you go. My Super Bowl prediction. Who knows how accurate it will be haha. Either way, I’m excited for this Super Bowl, but also sad because that means football is over with for a while 😦 Although, there’s a lot to look forward to next season!
Who do you think will win the Super Bowl??
